Atlanterhavsparken

The Atlantic Sea Park is one of Scandinavia’s largest saltwater aquariums and one of the most popular tourist attractions in north-western Norway. It was officially opened by his Majesty the King and the Queen of Norway, during their visit to Ålesund for the celebration of the city’s 150th anniversary in June 1998.

The park has been incorporated into the natural coastline at Tueneset, some 3km west of Ålesund town centre, and consists of almost 4000m2 of public and exhibition space and 6000m2 of grounds offering fishing, hiking, bathing and excellent scuba diving conditions.

The exhibition area consists of 11 large landscape aquariums, including three contact pools, and 14 small aquariums, which provide a representative sample of marine life along the coast of Norway and in the northern Atlantic. During the spring and summer of 2004, the opening of 2 new exhibitions and 2 new activity pools took place.

The construction price of the park was approximately 75 million NOK.

The Atlantic Sea Park is a natural-science interpretive centre that aims to provide knowledge about ecology, nature management and exploitation of the natural resources in the Atlantic Ocean – in addition to being a fun day-out for the entire family. The premises are also used to host special events, exhibitions and a wide range of other cultural activities.
